Sunset One and Sunset Two were made for my show with Sarah Hummel Jones atGenerator Space in Omaha. They formally relate together as a way for me to show the dark irony that the left-over carbon from one extinction is being released into the earth’s atmosphere to create a new mass extinction. When I first went to college, I was in Environmental Studies which focused on the philosophical and political aspects of environmental change; what I learned during those years still has a great influence over me.
Chirp, Chirp depicts a bird’s shadow cast against a wall. That casted shadow alludes to the bird being inside of a display case and not in the wild, a future that seems inevitable for many bird species that are barely hanging on as humans industrialize and expand into the last bit of their natural habitat.
Under the Banner of Heaven, Naughty Scotty, and In Bad Faith were made for my exhibition, Bad Faith in High Places at Turbine Flats in Lincoln, NE. To read more about that exhibition click on the link above.
