Sunset One, summer 2019, Oil on Linen, 47 x 31.25 inches
Sunset Two, summer-fall 2019, oil on linen, 47 x 31.25 inches
Sunset One and Sunset Two were made for my show with Sarah Hummel Jones atGenerator Space in Omaha. They formally relate together as a way for me to show the dark irony that the left-over carbon from one extinction is being released into the earth’s atmosphere to create a new mass extinction. When I first went to college, I was in Environmental Studies which focused on the philosophical and political aspects of environmental change; what I learned during those years still has a great influence over me.
Chirp, Chirp, fall 2019, oil on linen, 32 x 36.75 inches
Chirp, Chirp depicts a bird’s shadow cast against a wall. That casted shadow alludes to the bird being inside of a display case and not in the wild, a future that seems inevitable for many bird species that are barely hanging on as humans industrialize and expand into the last bit of their natural habitat.
